Enduring Understandings by Grade

Each one of our religious school classes has an enduring understanding - a big Jewish idea that they explore through out the year.

Kindergarten & 1^st grade (Since the two grades were together last year, they have the same curriculum – adapted for the specific age groups – this year.)

Jewish holidays provide a unique way of marking time and making it holy and special.

The Bible can teach me a unique Jewish way of viewing the world and making choices in my life.

2^nd grade

By studying and applying Jewish ritual, celebration, symbols and Torah, our lives are enriched with meaning, value, and purpose.

3^rd grade

The Torah is the ongoing story of the Jewish people. Embedded in it are values, rituals, and ways of knowing God and our community. In every generation we study the Torah and the texts of our tradition to find meaning and relevance for our own lives.

4^th grade

The goal of the Jew is to pursue holiness – bringing us closer to one another, our world and our God.

5^th grade

As Reform Jews, we are inheritors of both the literal rabbinic tradition (the oral Torah), and the idea that Judaism, in response to history, has always been changing and “reforming.”

6^th grade

Like the Prophets and Judges of our people, we too must listen for the voice of God and search our own souls for what is ethical, right, and important to do in our world.

7^th grade

By saying “hineini” to Jewish life I am saying that I am here, ready to learn, and ready to become an adult Jew. My life reflects Torah and Torah is reflected in my life. The prayers of our people can add meaning to my life and help me connect to God and my community. My ethical behavior reflects my ongoing relationship to God and to my community.
